Meydan and the history of horseracing in UAE

In October 1981, the horse racing began in Emirates of Dubai, when this UAE Camel Track hosted the first horse race.

Organized by the office of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President of UAE.

The Dubai Racing Club was established in 1992 under a UAE air force commander Ali Khamis Al Jafleh.

March 1992, the authorized opening at the Racecourse Nad Al Sheba, where the best part was the arrival of some leading stars of that time – jockeys Willie Carson and Lester Piggott.

With the limitation just after a year later in March 1993 on the transfer on horses from the country of UAE, the second best option jockeys was selected by the Racing Club of Dubai.

The Nad Al Sheba Racecourse hosted the (DIJC). To complete 5 sets of two jockeys were invited. The senior riders are from Europe, Japan, United Arab Emirates and Australia.

In 1996 the1st Dubai World Cup was held and push both UAE and Nad Al Sheba Racecourse to the global stage. The second Dubai World Cup in 2010 helped to introduce the Racecourse and Meydan Grandstand to the world.

The unique development will be a new home to the Dubai World Cup with the capacity for more than 60,000 Grandstand seating. There will be Meydan Hotel featuring 285 apartments and suites.
